Alain Poher
né le 17 avril 1909 à Ablon-sur-Seine et mort le 9 décembre 1996 à Paris, était un homme d’État français. Après avoir été engagé dans la Résistance, il a adhéré au Mouvement républicain populaire (MRP) et est devenu sénateur en 1946. Il a occupé plusieurs postes importants tout au long de sa carrière. Il a été secrétaire d’État chargé des Finances dans le deuxième gouvernement Robert Schuman puis du Budget au sein du gouvernement Henri Queuille. Il a présidé le Parlement européen de 1966 à 1969 et a été président du Sénat français de 1968 à 1992.
En tant que président du Sénat, il a assumé par intérim la fonction de président de la République française pendant un total de trois mois : une première fois en 1969, à la suite de la démission de Charles de Gaulle, puis en 1974, après la mort de Georges Pompidou.

Alain Poher
was born on 17 April 1909 in Ablon-sur-Seine and died on 9 December 1996 in Paris, was a French statesman. After being engaged in the Resistance, he joined the People’s Republican Movement (MRP) and became a senator in 1946. He has held several important positions throughout his career. He was Secretary of State for Finance in the second government of Robert Schuman and then Budget in the government of Henri Queuille. He was President of the European Parliament from 1966 to 1969 and President of the French Senate from 1968 to 1992.
As President of the Senate, he served on an interim basis for a total of three months as President of the French Republic: first in 1969, following the resignation of Charles de Gaulle, and then in 1974, after the death of Georges Pompidou.
