né le 14 juillet 1862 à Baumgarten en Autriche et mort le 6 février 1918 à Vienne, est un peintre symboliste autrichien.
Artiste phare du symbolisme viennois, Gustav Klimt (1862–1918) est mondialement connu pour ses compositions précieuses où l’or domine. Il a été l’un des fondateurs du mouvement sécessionniste, créé dans le but de faire rayonner l’art autrichien sur la scène internationale. Personnalité profondément originale, Klimt a suscité en son temps des réactions contrastées en raison de l’érotisme de ses compositions où vie et mort s’entremêlent.
