Pierre Eugène Jean Pflimlin

né le 5 février 1907 à Roubaix (Nord) et mort le 27 juin 2000 à Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), est un homme politique français, avant-dernier président du Conseil de la IVe République.
Ses premières fonctions ministérielles furent celles de sous-secrétaire d'État au ministère de la Santé publique et de la Population (en 1946), puis de sous-secrétaire d'État à l'Économie nationale.
Très souvent ministre durant la Quatrième République, notamment ministre de l'Agriculture dans huit gouvernements entre 1947 et 1951. Il fut l'avant-dernier Président du Conseil de la Quatrième République , investi par l'Assemblée le 14 mai 1958 à deux heures du matin (par 274 voix contre 129)
Ayant dû céder la place à Charles de Gaulle, il occupa toutefois dans son gouvernement le poste de ministre d'État (1er juin 1958 - 8 janvier 1959).
Il revint au gouvernement lors de la nomination de Georges Pompidou, comme ministre d'État, ministre de la coopération (15 avril-15 mai 1962), démissionnant prématurément au bout d'un mois avec les autres ministres issus du MRP, en raison de graves désaccords avec le général de Gaulle au sujet de la construction européenne.
Président du Parlement européen de 1984 à 1987, il se retire de la vie politique à la fin de sa présidence. Il a publié, en 1991, les Mémoires d'un Européen (Fayard).
Pierre Pflimlin et son épouse sont inhumés au cimetière Saint-Gall de Strasbourg.

Pierre Eugène Jean Pflimlin

born on 5 February 1907 in Roubaix (North) and died on 27 June 2000 in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), is a French politician, the second last president of the Council of the Fourth Republic.
State Secretary at the Ministry of Public Health and Population (1946), then Under-Secretary of State for the National Economy.
Very often minister during the Fourth Republic, notably minister of agriculture in eight governments between 1947 and 1951. He was the penultimate President of the Council of the Fourth Republic, inaugurated by the Assembly on 14 May 1958 at two o'clock in the morning (by 274 votes to 129)
Having had to give way to Charles de Gaulle, he nevertheless held the post of Minister of State in his government. (1 June 1958 - 8 January 1959).
He returned to the government when Georges Pompidou was appointed as Minister of State, Minister for Cooperation (15 April-15 May 1962), resigning prematurely after a month with the other ministers from the MRP, Because of serious disagreements with General de Gaulle on the subject of European integration.
President of the European Parliament from 1984 to 1987, he retired from political life at the end of his presidency. He published the Memoirs of a European (Fayard) in 1991.
Pierre Pflimlin and his wife are buried in the Saint-Gall cemetery in Strasbourg.
