Hans Memling
également orthographié Memlinc, était un peintre actif en Flandre, qui travaillait dans la tradition de la peinture des Primitifs flamands. Né dans la région du Rhin moyen, il a probablement passé son enfance à Mayence. Il est né vers 1430 et est décédé le 11 août 1494 à Bruges. Memling a développé un style personnel, empreint de sérénité et de douceur, qui a ensuite pris valeur d’exemple pour ses contemporains. Environ cent pièces de Memling sont connues, qui lui sont attribuées ou à son atelier. Elles comportent des retables, des représentations de la Vierge et une importante galerie de portraits.

Hans Memling
also spelled Memlinc, was an active painter in Flanders, who worked in the tradition of painting the Flemish Primitives. Born in the Middle Rhine region, he probably spent his childhood in Mainz. He was born around 1430 and died on 11 August 1494 in Bruges. Memling developed a personal style, imbued with serenity and gentleness, which then took value as an example for his contemporaries. About one hundred pieces of Memling are known, which are attributed to him or his workshop. They include altarpieces, representations of the Virgin and an important gallery of portraits.
