Claire Bretécher
née le 7 avril 1940 à Nantes, est une auteure de bande dessinée humoristique et illustratrice française.
Après avoir collaboré aux principaux titres de la presse jeunesse franco-belge dans les années 1960 (Record, Tintin et Spirou), Bretécher participe à l'émergence de la bande dessinée adulte francophone en rejoignant Pilote en 1969 puis en co-fondant L'Écho des savanes en 1972.
Seule femme à avoir collaboré aux principaux périodiques francos-belges classiques, Claire Bretécher jouit d'une notoriété assez importante dès le début des années 1970, qui va s'accroissant tout au long de sa décennie grâce à sa collaboration au Nouvel Observateur. Régulièrement invitée dans les médias, cet « auteure essentielle de la bande dessinée francophone» a reçu plusieurs prix importants, dont en 1982 un Grand Prix d'Angoulême spécial, le premier remis par les anciens lauréats du prix et non par un jury. En 2015, elle a fait l'objet d'une exposition rétrospective à la Bibliothèque publique d'information du Centre Beaubourg, à Paris.

After collaborating with the main Franco-Belgian youth press titles in the 1960s (Record, Tintin and Spirou), Bretécher helped to create the adult French-language comic strip by joining Pilote in 1969 and then co-founding L'Écho des savanes in 1972.
The only woman to have collaborated on major classical Franco-Belgian periodicals, Claire Bretécher enjoyed a fairly important reputation from the early 1970s, which grew throughout her decade thanks to her collaboration with Nouvel Observateur. Regularly invited to the media, this «essential author of the French-language comic strip» has received several important prizes, including a special 1982 Grand Prix d'Angoulême, the first awarded by former winners of the prize and not by a jury. In 2015, it was the subject of a retrospective exhibition at the Public Information Library of the Centre Beaubourg in Paris.
