La cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg
est une cathédrale catholique romaine construite à Strasbourg, représentative de l'architecture gothique. Elle est reconnaissable par son unique clocher surmonté d'une flèche
Le site de la cathédrale a été utilisé par plusieurs édifices religieux successifs, à partir de l'occupation romaine. Le chantier de la cathédrale actuelle commence sur les fondations de la construction précédente et ne s'achève que plusieurs siècles plus tard, en 1439. La construction débute par le choeur et le transept Nord, dans un style roman.
Vers 1220, un architecte français ayant participé à de grands chantiers gothiques en Île-de-France comme Chartres et Reims arrive à Strasbourg avec ses artisans et initie le changement de style de l'édifice avec notamment le rehaussement de l'ancienne nef romane en un ensemble gothique et de l'élargissement des voûtes et des ouvertures dans les murs.
Le premier maître d'oeuvre attesté du chantier de la cathédrale est Erwin von Steinbach. Sa fonction de responsable du chantier de la cathédrale a été officialisée le 16 octobre 1284 dans un contrat avec la chancellerie de la ville.

The site of the cathedral was used by several successive religious buildings, from the Roman occupation. The construction of the present cathedral begins on the foundations of the previous building and is completed several centuries later, in 1439. The construction begins with the choir and the north transept, in a Romanesque style.
Around 1220, a French architect who participated in major Gothic works in Île-de-Francede France as Chartres and Reims arrives in Strasbourg with its craftsmen and initiates the change of style of the building with notably the elevation of the old Romanesque nave into a Gothic ensemble and the widening of the vaults and openings in the walls.
The first architect to be found on the cathedral site is Erwin von Steinbach. His position as the head of the cathedral’s construction was formalized on 16 October 1284 in a contract with the city chancellery.
