Henri Bergson
né le 18 octobre 1859 à Paris où il est mort le 4 janvier 1941, est un philosophe français prix Nobel de littérature en 1927.
En 1896, il publia un second ouvrage majeur, Matière et mémoire. Ce livre relativement difficile, mais très riche, explore les fonctions du cerveau, entreprend une analyse de la perception et de la mémoire, et propose des considérations sur les problèmes de la relation entre l'esprit et le corps. Bien que désirant se convertir au catholicisme, il y renonça par solidarité avec les autres Juifs. Il s'exprime ainsi en 1937 : « Mes réflexions m'ont amené de plus en plus près du catholicisme, où je vois l'achèvement complet du judaïsme. Je me serais converti, si je n'avais vu se préparer depuis des années la formidable vague d'antisémitisme qui va déferler sur le monde. J'ai voulu rester parmi ceux qui seront demain des persécutés.
Il meurt le 4 janvier 1941 à 81 ans. À la suite de sa demande, un prêtre catholique officie à son enterrement. Henri Bergson repose au cimetière de Garches, dans les Hauts-de-Seine.

born 18 October 1859 in Paris, where he died on 4 January 1941, was a French philosopher who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1927.
In 1896, he published a second major work, Matière et mémoire. This relatively difficult but very rich book explores the functions of the brain, undertakes an analysis of perception and memory, and offers considerations on problems of the relationship between mind and body. Although he wanted to convert to Catholicism, he gave up out of solidarity with the other Jews. He said in 1937: My reflections have brought me closer and closer to Catholicism, where I see the complete completion of Judaism. I would have converted, if I had not seen the formidable wave of anti-Semitism that will spread over the world prepared for years. I wanted to remain among those who will be persecuted tomorrow.
He died on January 4, 1941 at the age of 81. Upon request, a Catholic priest officiates at his funeral. Henri Bergson is buried in the cemetery of Garches, in the Hauts-de-Seine.
